The Revised Concept Plan

Key to Lansdowne’s future sustainability and success is replacing the City’s 56-year-old, functionally obsolete Civic Centre and North Stadium stands.
Located at the east end of the current TD Place stadium, and integrated into the Great Lawn, a new, state-of-the-art, modern mid-size Event Centre will be the heartbeat of Lansdowne. The centre will be the new home of the Ottawa 67’s, Ottawa BlackJacks, and new Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) franchise, while providing best-in-class, sustainable, and accessible amenities capable of attracting world-class arts, entertainment, and sporting events to the region.
Designed by renowned stadium architects Brisbin Brook Beynon, the Event Centre will be built better, not bigger (5,500 capacity down from the current 9,500), with improved seating, washroom, and concourse spaces, suites, as well as an enhanced back of house for entertainers, and modern telecommunication and broadcast facilities.

The new North Stadium stands, also designed by Brisbin Brook Beynon Architects, will accommodate 11,200 spectators in a new sustainably built, accessible, and modernized facility for REDBLACKS and Atlético fans. The design brings spectators closer to the field, and includes new features such as premium seating, field level suites, stacked upper-level fan decks, and club seating areas. The new stands will also provide improved concourses, food and beverage amenities, and washrooms.

Integrated into the new North Stadium stands along with new retail spaces, two new residential towers are proposed to promote a sustainable live, work, and play philosophy on the site. By offering a total of approximately 770 new residential units, Lansdowne will continue to cement its role as Ottawa’s Gathering Place while developing a true 15-minute neighbourhood that helps meet density targets set out in the new Official Plan. The development will also invest to generate approximately 75 new affordable housing units for Ottawa.
Building scale, form and separation are designed to shape the public realm experience and minimize the impact from the proposed high-rise form.

Behind the new North Stadium stands, will be a new residential and commercial podium that will improve the civic experience. The new podium is designed to open up views to the Aberdeen Pavilion and Bank Street, all the while establishing opportunities for enhanced retail and commercial space along Exhibition Way.

The Revised Concept Plan includes public realm improvements that will integrate new infrastructure with the spirit, history, and existing development on site. Central to this will be the creation of a new 27,900 square foot public realm plaza space surrounding – and to showcase – the Aberdeen Pavilion, a prominent landmark and National Historic Site, and integrated with the new Event Centre and Great Lawn. Continued enhancements to the Urban Park will also be prioritized.
The site will continue to prioritize active transportation, and improvements to how visitors access the site – whether by transit, walking, cycling – will be investigated.
